Thank you Jim Halpert

With no school to worry about for the past few weeks, Andrew has reverted into a triple-celled organism. This will last until next week when schrool beckons my tired body to return. How I wish I could not. Oh yeah, the 3 cells are sleep, food, and recreation.

Anyhoo I decided to catch up on the Office, seasons one through five. It was a great time and now my sister and her husband are watching it as well. As I watched the series I found that can relate to Jim Halpert very well. Dwight was always my favorite and I am almost as dorky as he is, but Jim's personality, ambition, and feelings are often close to mine in the workplace.
Jim was often the office prankster, and even then he really would only pull something on Dwight, Dwight being the easiest target. It was great to watch and the audience sees a lot of good moments throughout the first five seasons. But I have seen Jim slowly change over the last little while. The pranks have quieted down and new Jim has taken hold recently. I think part of Jim Halpert grew up. He got engaged, then married and is trying to secure a financial future for his family.

To make a long story short, Jim started working harder and acting a tad more professional. He started seeing a bigger picture at Dundler-Mifflin. In the end he was promoted to co-manager where he is now. Watching the series unfold and seeing the changes Jim had to go through has been kind of an inspiration for me lately. I am in a leadership position at Target and feel the weight of that responsibility everyday.

But it seems to me that I have been a little too much like the old Jim Halpert...until now. Seeing all this has made a deep impression on me. It has made me more serious in the workplace and more professional. I am such an easy-going guy that it can be hard to have those attributes sometimes. But lately I have seen the bigger picture myself. I am not a Target Team Leader, but do the work of such a position and know that I could fulfill such a role. I just need to start acting the part more. I need to be like Jim in season 6.
Of course I am not exactly like Jim. I try to have more fun, I am more talkative (sometimes), more inquisitive, and I don't date co-workers. But the lessons Jim has taught me over these past few weeks have been valuable ones, even if they did come from a television show. It's kinda sad when that's the only way to make me learn...but as long as I learn, well that is the point.

Look out world, there is a new Andrew. And he is going to kick your professional, corporate butt!
